Oxbridge Academy defensive back C.J. Smith will begin his college football career under new Nebraska head coach Scott Frost.

The highly touted safety announced his commitment to the Cornhuskers Sunday afternoon through Twitter.

Smith, a four-star recruit according to 247Sports Composite, picked Nebraska over numerous Power 5 schools, among them Florida, Alabama and LSU.

He previously had committed to the Gators in March, but backed off that pledge in July.

Smith played a big role in the ThunderWolves’ secondary this season, but was unable to compete in the postseason because of injury.

Oxbridge advanced to the Class 3A state championship game, but was beaten by Hollywood-Chaminade Madonna Saturday on a last-second field goal.

Smith was a Palm Beach Post Super 11 selection this season, and is the No. 2-ranked player on the Class of 2018 Big Board.

Last year he was named to the Post’s All-Area second team as a wide receiver.
