Softball: Big week of district play on tap for area’s top teams

Week 7 was a big one for our area’s softball teams, with many key district games on the schedule.

More of the same is on tap for this week. We’ll preview some of those games below.

As for our top 10, Wellington maintained its season-long hold on the No. 1 spot. The Wolverines are followed by Jupiter, West Boca Raton, Oxbridge Academy and Palm Beach Gardens.

The Gators jumped two spots after defeating Jupiter on Tuesday and also picking up three other wins last week.

Park Vista sits at No. 6, followed by Spanish River – the Cobras and Sharks meet Tuesday – Olympic Heights, King’s Academy and Seminole Ridge.

Two weeks remain in the regular season.

Games to watch this week:
No. 1 Wellington (16-2) at No. 5 Palm Beach Gardens (14-6), 7 p.m. Monday: Two of the area’s perennial powers square off in this late-season contest.
No. 7 Spanish River (11-4) at No. 6 Park Vista (13-2), 6:30 p.m. Tuesday: The Cobras have won seven in a row, but face a challenge in the Sharks.
American Heritage (7-5) at No. 4 Oxbridge Academy (15-4), 4 p.m. Tuesday: The Stallions and ThunderWolves face off  in a key district matchup.
Dwyer (10-9) at No. 2 Jupiter (17-3), 6:30 p.m. Monday: The Panthers continue their tough string of games against the Warriors, who have outscored their last two opponents 25-2.
No. 9 King’s Academy (15-5) at American Heritage (7-5), 7 p.m. Wednesday: This is the back end of consecutive district contests for the Stallions.
No. 2 Jupiter (17-3) at Coral Springs Charter (19-2), 6 p.m. Thursday: The state-ranked Warriors travel to Coral Springs to face the three-time defending state champion Panthers.
No. 6 Spanish River (11-4) at No. 10 Seminole Ridge (11-9), 7 p.m. Thursday: The Hawks jumped back into the top 10 this week, and face a well-rounded Sharks team that has district championship hopes.
