Football: Three-day early signing period gets underway today

Football has an early signing period for Division I recruits this year, and it begins today.

Student-athletes who plan to enroll for the 2018-19 school year can sign their national letters of intent through Friday.

Mid-year junior college transfers also can sign their national letters of intent today through Jan. 15.

The regular signing period for football runs from February 7 through April 1, 2018.

The Palm Beach Post high schools team is set to provide complete coverage of early signing day ceremonies. Stay tuned for updates from what will be a busy day in Palm Beach County.

3:30 p.m.

Three Palm Beach Gardens football players signed national letters of intent, with Gurvan Hall (Miami) and Parker Ogle (Massachusetts) signing at school.

Athlete Jarrett Jackson opted for a restaurant ceremony to announce he was sticking with Louisville.

3:10 p.m.

Joining John Smith at Holy Cross is American Heritage offensive lineman Matt Cedeno. You can read more about Cedeno here. 

 

3:10 p.m. 

Park Vista’s Atorian Perry and John Smith signed in a ceremony at the school after sending their Letters of Intent in the morning.

3:05 p.m.

Forest Hill’s Jordon Earle, who played both offensive and defensive line for the Falcons, signed with Appalachian State.

Earle helped lead Forest Hill to its first playoff berth since 1996.

12:20 p.m.

Atlantic defensive back Kenih Lovely sent his Letter of Intent to Western Michigan.

Lovely, a Super 11 selection before the season began, missed part of the year due to injury but was instrumental in helping lead the Eagles to the Class 8A state title game.

12:05 p.m.

Dante Lang became the first Palm Beach County player to sign with new Florida coach Dan Mullen.

The tight end, who starred at that position and at defensive end, is the No. 6 player on the Post’s Big Board.

9:05 a.m.

Oxbridge Academy defensive back Keidron Smith has sent his paperwork in to Ole Miss. The three-star corner committed to Ole Miss in November.

The ThunderWolves are holding their signing ceremony now.

9:00 a.m.

Park Vista’s Atorian Perry signed early with Wake Forest on Wednesday. Perry, who was previously committed to UAB, flipped to the Demon Deacons earlier this month.

Perry, the No. 19 player on the Post’s Big Board, already sent his paperwork in and will have a signing ceremony at 1:30 p.m. today.

 

8:55 a.m.

One of the biggest offensive linemen in the county signed his letter of intent. Benjamin’s Martin Weisz, No. 15 on the Big Board, signed with Virginia. He joins teammate Jordan Travis in the ACC.

“Every single time, I would envision myself signing the paper in my workouts — just like motivation,” he said. “Now it’s finally here.”

8:40 a.m.

Dwyer cornerback Justin Birchette has officially signed with Ohio.

Birchette is the No. 20 player on the Post’s Big Board.

8:35 a.m.

Dwyer safety Cameron Jonas, a Super 11 pick, signed with Syracuse Wednesday morning.

Jonas missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL. He is a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports, and is the No. 4 player on the Post’s Big Board.

8:30 a.m.

Benjamin quarterback Jordan Travis signed with the Louisville Cardinals, despite the Florida Gators trying to make a late push for him.

“The University of Florida tried to make a late push for me, but it’s too late and I’m glad I made my decision,” Travis said. “And I’m proud.”

Travis, the Groza Award winner and Class 3A Florida Player of the Year, is rated a three-star prospect and had a dominant year for the Buccaneers.
