Last season, the former Boynton Beach standout won the award, which honors college football’s top player. He went on to become Palm Beach County’s first Heisman Trophy winner.

Eighteen players were selected Monday as semifinalists, including Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts.

UCF sophomore quarterback McKenzie Milton also was named a semifinalist Monday. He is the only athlete on the list who plays college football at a Florida school.

Check out the complete list here.

In nine games this season, Jackson has completed 197-of-326 passes for 2,808 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 1,029 yards and 14 touchdowns.

If Jackson wins the 81st Maxwell Award, he will join Tim Tebow (Florida, 2007-08) and Johnny Lattner (Notre Dame, 1952-53) as the only two-time winners.

The next round of voting for the Maxwell Award begins Tuesday and will close Nov. 19. Three finalists will be announced Nov. 20.
