Baseball: Nine former FHSAA student-athletes set to participate in MLB All-Star Game

Nine former Florida high school student-athletes – the most of any state – will participate in Tuesday’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

The first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Marlins Park in Miami.

The players are:

Lance McCullers, Houston Astros RHP (Tampa-Jesuit)
Andrew Miller, Cleveland Indians LHP (Gainesville-Buchholz)
Chris Sale, Boston Red Sox LHP (Lakeland)
Yonder Alonso, Oakland Athletics 1B (Coral Gables)
Michael Brantley, Cleveland Indians LF (Fort Pierce Central)
Francisco Lindor, Cleveland Indians SS (Montverde Academy)
Daniel Murphy, Washington Nationals 2B (Jacksonville-Englewood)
Zack Greinke, Arizona Diamondbacks RHP (Apopka)
Wade Davis, Chicago Cubs RHP (Lake Wales)

Murphy will be starting at second base for the American League.

The nine former Florida High School Athletic Association players have a combined 24 total All-Star Game appearances, with Sale leading the way with six.

“We are so proud to have nine former FHSAA student-athletes participating in this year’s MLB All-Star Game – the most in the nation,” FHSAA Executive Director George Tomyn said. “With the game being played in Miami and the inclusion of these nine players, the extraordinary talent we have in the state of Florida will be well represented for this showcase event.”
