The former Forest Hill boys basketball coach was named the new coach at West Boca Raton, he confirmed Friday. Vera was an assistant at Cardinal Newman last season.
He takes over for James Pinckney, who moved from the Bulls’ boys team to the girls team.
West Boca Raton went 8-13 last season, and lost to Dwyer in the district quarterfinals. West Boca Raton was 2-23 in 2016.
“It’s going to be a challenge,” Vera said of his new role. “It’s a program that’s been down for awhile. I know when the school first came out, they had some early success. So I’m hoping to kind of get back to that. We’ll put in a ton of work to get there.”
Vera spent three seasons at Forest Hill before leaving last year to join Tavarus Harris’ staff at Cardinal Newman.
The Crusaders advanced to the Class 5A regional semifinals this season.
