Michigan State signee Lashawn Paulino-Bell, a three-star recruit out of Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas, was hurt in a jet ski accident Monday while on a family vacation in the Bahamas.
Paulino-Bell, a defensive end, was treated at Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport and later airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he is in stable condition, according to the Lansing State Journal.
Dejmi Dumervil Jean, a St. Thomas Aquinas teammate, said Paulino-Bell suffered internal injuries in the accident. The severity of the injuries are unclear.
Paulino-Bell, 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, signed with the Spartans on Feb. 1. He was a consensus top 100 player in Florida, according to the Journal.
Paulino-Bell recorded 40 tackles and five sacks last season, and helped lead the Raiders to the Class 7A state championship. St. Thomas Aquinas defeated Dwyer on the way to winning the state championship, shutting out the Panthers 37-0 in the regional semifinals.
A relative of Paulino-Bell has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money for medical expenses.
