Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, who starred for two seasons at Boynton Beach High School, spent time with Tigers coaches and players as well as school administrators.

Jackson, a Cardinals sophomore, won the Heisman Trophy in December after throwing for 3,390 yards and 30 touchdowns, and rushing for 1,538 yards and 21 touchdowns last season.

“Lamar was exactly what the kids needed to see,” said Boynton Beach defensive coordinator and Palm Beach County Sports Hall-of-Famer Derrick Crudup, who met with Jackson Wednesday.

“(He shows) what success and hard work can do for you, on and off the field. He’s a great young man.”

Jackson, who drew national attention while at Boynton Beach, was rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports. He chose Louisville over Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska and Miami, among others.

He closed his high school career by winning the Lou Groza High School Player of the Year Award in 2015.

Jackson will be honored Sunday as the county’s Amateur Athlete of the Year at the 41st annual Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame Awards Celebration.
