Golf: King’s Academy’s Kozan 3rd after first day of state competition; American Heritage girls 4th

The two-day event is being held at Mission Inn & Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills.

Kozan, the Post’s 2014 Player of the Year, is two shots behind leader Thomas Allkins of Lake Mary Prep. Justin Wynen of Bradenton-St. Stephen’s is in second place at 1-under par.

King’s Academy senior Austin Durand is tied for 10th at 3-over, and Cardinal Newman junior Jeffrey Cunningham is tied for 15th at 4-over.

In the girls team event, the American Heritage girls shot a team-total 321 and are in fourth place after the first round of competition.

The Stallions are 37 shots behind leader Lake Mary Prep. Windermere Prep is in second place at 289, followed by Winter Park-Circle Christian (297).

Benjamin is tied for sixth with Pensacola Catholic and Tampa-Cambridge Christian at 326.

In individual competition, American Heritage freshman Antonia Herrera is tied for 15th at 3-over. Benjamin freshman Hannah Foster is tied for 33rd at 6-over, and St. Andrew’s sophomore Zora Gittens and Grandview Prep senior Jaci Cruz are among a group tied for 37th at 7-over.

In the boys team event, King’s Academy is in seventh place after the first day of competition with a team-total 317. Cardinal Newman is one spot behind in eighth place at 319. Lake Mary Prep leads with a team-total 301.
