Senior wings Alex Dieudonne and Lester Gates will continue their basketball careers at Clayton State (Ga.) University and Lewis and Clark Community College (Ill.), respectively.
The pair helped lead the Wolverines to the Class 8A state championship in 2015, and to the regional finals this season. Wellington finished a combined 54-8 during the past two seasons.
Dieudonne has earned All-Area first team honors for the past three years, and also was a first-team All-Conference selection during that same span. Last season, he averaged 17.6 points and 7.5 rebounds.
“Alex is an explosive athlete who was a leader of the Wolverine basketball team,” Wellington coach Matt Colin said. “He worked really hard his senior year to develop his skills as a wing player. He’s physically strong, and can get to the rim on anyone.”
The 6-foot-5 Gates averaged 12 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season. He also earned All-Area and All-Conference honors.
“Lester is an exceptional athlete who can shoot the ball,” Colin said. “At his size, he can get his shot off against most defenders, and is a great defensive player.”
During the past three seasons, Wellington has won a state title, a regional title, three conference championships and three district championships, and also claimed the 2015 D-Hop Holiday Tournament title. The Wolverines haven’t lost a regular-season home game in two years.
