How big is high school football in Texas?

A Texas high school has voted to build a $62.8 million high school football stadium.

A Texas school district has voted to build a $62.8 million high school football stadium.

Big enough, apparently, to fill a 12,000-seat football stadium.

The McKinney (Texas) Independent School District has voted in favor of building the country’s most expensive high school football stadium, reports Sports Illustrated in a story published Monday.

A board has moved forward with a bond that supports construction of a $62.8 million stadium.

About $50.3 million will come from the town as part of a $220 million bond. The other $12.5 million has already been raised as part of a bond that was approved in 2000, according to Sports Illustrated.

The stadium will be the country’s priciest, though two other Texas high school football stadiums are not far behind.

The city of Allen built a $60 million football stadium that holds 18,000 fans, while the city of Katy is finalizing a $62.5 million stadium.

The McKinney Independent School District has three high schools and more than 24,500 students. All three schools will play their games at the planned stadium.
