Games of the Week:
No. 4 Park Vista (6-1) at No. 7 West Boca Raton, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday: The Cobras have gotten off to a tremendous start this season, winning their first five games before dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 1 Palm Beach Gardens Feb. 19. Pitcher Jaime Scher has been terrific for Park Vista, while the Cobras’ offense has scored runs in bunches. Bulls’ starter Jordyn Lyman, a two-year starter as a sophomore, also has pitched well for West Boca. She threw a two-hitter against No. 5 Suncoast on Friday and allowed just a run, but West Boca was unable to provide any run support in a 1-0 loss. Look for Scher and Lyman to set the tone in this one.
No. 6 Wellington (6-2) at Seminole Ridge (4-3), 6:30 p.m. Tuesday: This will be the second meeting of the season between the District 12-8A rivals, with the Wolverines winning 10-2 Feb. 9. Wellington has scored nine runs or more five times this season, and has totaled 64 runs in its six wins. The Wolverines’ only two losses have come to unbeaten Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter. Neither is in Wellington’s district after offseason realignment. The Hawks, led by junior starter Taylor Pennica, hope to keep pace with the Wolverines in district play with a win at home here.
No. 8 American Heritage (4-0) at Cardinal Newman (3-4), 4 p.m. Thursday: The Stallions are one of three unbeaten teams remaining in this week’s top 10, and face a tough district opponent Thursday in the Crusaders. Cardinal Newman has gotten solid production from pitcher Taylor Brindle, who is 3-3 this season with a 2.99 ERA. She also is one of four Crusaders batting over .400. But runs could be tough to come by against the Stallions and starter Addison Simpson. The senior, who shut down Cardinal Newman 2-0 in the teams’ first meeting Feb. 18, is 4-0 this season and has allowed just one run.
