With the 2015 football season in the rear-view mirror and the Palm Beach Post All-Area teams published, we thought it would be a good idea to let Palm Beach County football fans decide who they think were the best players in the county this season.
Each day, we’ll narrow the selections down to who we think were five of the top players at each position this past season, and from there, you choose who you believe was the best. You can vote for the best defensive lineman here, the best offensive lineman here, the best wide receiver here, the best quarterback here, and the best running back here.
Today’s position is linebacker. All five of these defensive standouts helped anchor their team’s defensive units in 2015.
Here are the five:
Vandarius Cowan, Palm Beach Gardens, Jr.: The FSU commit excelled at linebacker after moving there from defensive end this season. The four-star recruit finished a breakout junior season with 102 tackles and two forced fumbles for the district champion Gators.
Chanler Ferguson, Atlantic, Sr.: The Post’s All-Area Large Schools defensive Player of the Year helped anchor a stingy Eagles’ defense in 2015. The FAU commit recorded 110 tackles, five interceptions and one defensive touchdown.
Lawrence Graham, American Heritage, Sr.: The FAU commit helped carry the Stallions to their second straight appearance in the Class 3A state championship game this season. He finished with seven sacks and one interception.
Zach McCloud, Santaluces, Sr.: The UM commit has played a key role on defense for the Chiefs during the past two seasons after overcoming an injury as a sophomore. He recently was named a Florida All-State Class 8A first team selection.
Emmanuel Yisrael, Oxbridge Academy, Jr.: The junior standout led the ThunderWolves in tackles this season with 103, including five for loss. He was an All-State Class 3A honorable mention selection.
