Longtime boys basketball coach Brad Flaig is changing jobs for next season.

The former Boynton Beach and Atlantic coach has accepted the head coaching position at West Boca Raton, athletic director Joe Nappi confirmed Thursday.

Flaig has spent the past eight seasons at Atlantic, and led the Eagles to six regional playoff appearances during his tenure.

Last season, Atlantic won the District 10-9A championship and advanced to the regional semifinals before falling to eventual Class 9A state finalist Wellington.

The Eagles finished 17-11.

Flaig started his coaching career at Chiefland before moving to Boynton Beach in 2001. He led the Tigers to a state runner-up finish in 2003.

Flaig has built an overall career record of 326-183. He has won district championships at every school he has coached.

“We’re excited to have him here with all his years of experience and success in Palm Beach County,” Nappi said.

Flaig takes over a West Boca Raton team that has struggled in recent years.

The Bulls finished 3-22 last year under first-year coach Nate Vera, and haven’t had a winning season since 2011.

But Flaig is confident he can build West Boca Raton into a competitive program.

“It’ll take awhile,” he said. “But I like a challenge. We’ve got some great kids here. It’s a good situation for me.”
