The Lancers had a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.767, which is the highest of all Class 2A schools that participate in girls weightlifting.

Bradenton-Lakewood Ranch is No. 2 at 3.763, followed by Port St. Lucie-Centennial (3.686) and Fort Myers (3.682).

There were no other Academic Team Champions from Palm Beach County during the winter sports season, but a handful of area schools did finish among the top 10.

They are: King’s Academy boys basketball (fifth, Class 5A); Benjamin boys basketball (sixth, Class 4A); Suncoast girls basketball (eighth, Class 6A); Benjamin girls basketball (ninth, Class 4A); King’s Academy boys soccer (eighth, Class 2A); Benjamin girls soccer (10th, Class 2A); Suncoast girls weightlifting (fourth, Class 1A); Wellington wrestling (seventh, Class 3A); and Olympic Heights wrestling (seventh, Class 2A).

In the overall standings for the 2017-18 academic year, Suncoast holds the fourth spot in Class 6A with 48 total points, while King’s Academy is seventh in Class 5A with 42 points.

The FHSAA Academic Team Champion recognition program honors teamwork in competition as well as in the classroom.

The program recognizes teams in each of the Association’s sanctioned and recognized sports, naming an Academic Team Champion in each classification.

Criteria include participation in FHSAA state series competition in the sport in which the school is nominated; and a cumulative team grade point average of at least 3.0 on an unweighted 4.0 scale.
