With the 2017 football season in the rear-view mirror and the Palm Beach Post All-Area teams published, we thought it would be a good idea to let Palm Beach County football fans decide who they think were the best players in the county this season.
Each day, we’ll narrow the selections to who we think were five of the top players at each position this past season, and from there, you choose who you believe was the best.

Today’s position is defensive back. All had standout seasons for their teams in 2017.
Here are the five:
1. Gurvan Hall, Palm Beach Gardens, Sr.: The UM-bound standout anchored the Gators’ secondary this season, finishing with 80 tackles, six interceptions and five forced fumbles.
2. Marc Allan Derac, Atlantic, Jr.: His nine interceptions were among the area’s best. Derac also finished with 58 tackles, seven forced fumbles and 15 pass deflections.
3. Keidron Smith, Oxbridge Academy, Sr.: The Ole Miss signee and Palm Beach Post Small Schools Defensive Player of the Year helped anchor a punishing ThunderWolves’ defense, finishing with 41 tackles and three interceptions. He allowed one touchdown all year.
4. Akeem Dent, Palm Beach Central, Jr.: The FSU commit and Palm Beach Post Large Schools Defensive Player of the Year joined the Broncos this season and had a huge year, finishing with 81 tackles, five interceptions and four forced fumbles.
5. Jamarian Green, Glades Central, Sr.: He recorded a team-best nine interceptions for the Raiders this year, and also broke up 26 passes.
