The Florida High School Athletic Association released its updated playoff point averages on Tuesday, and 13 area schools have qualified for the postseason through Week 9.

Park Vista holds the eighth qualifying spot in the Class 8A, Region 3 playoff standings through Week 9. (Andres Leiva, Palm Beach Post)

They include four teams in Class 8A (Atlantic, Palm Beach Central, Park Vista, Seminole Ridge); two in Class 7A (Dwyer, Forest Hill); one in Class 5A (Suncoast); four in Class 3A (King’s Academy, Oxbridge Academy, Benjamin, St. Andrew’s); one in Class 2A (Glades Day) and one in Class 1A (Pahokee).

The 13 Palm Beach County teams are two more than last week’s total of 11 playoff qualifiers.

Teams earn points based on a variety of factors, including number of wins and strength of schedule.

District champions earn automatic playoff berths through the FHSAA’s new points system, while all other qualifiers are determined based on points.

Palm Beach Central already has clinched the District 9-8A championship, while the District 10-8A and District 13-7A champions could be crowned this week.

Glades Central currently holds the fifth spot in Class 4A, Region 4. The top four teams in that region qualify for the playoffs. Also, Palm Beach Lakes stands ninth in Class 7A, Region 4. The top eight qualifiers advance.
