The Chargers and Bobcats are among eight teams that qualified for the Florida High School Boys Volleyball State Championships.

Quarterfinal contests will be played Friday at Golden Gate High School in Naples, with semifinal and state championship matches scheduled for Saturday.

The Bobcats, who are unbeaten at 23-0, will play Fort Lauderdale-Cardinal Gibbons (23-4) at 3 p.m. Friday; while the Chargers (12-11) take on Miami Killian (25-2) at 5 p.m.

Boca Raton, a state quarterfinalist last year, will face Cardinal Gibbons for the second time this season. The Bobcats won their previous matchup in five sets April 17.

“Every time we step on the court whether it is a practice or game, we are improving,” Boca Raton coach Brian Reim said. “It is our mission this year to play our best possible ball at the state championships. We didn’t want to peak to early.”

Suncoast, which beat John I. Leonard in five sets Tuesday to advance to the state tournament, lost to Killian in last year’s state semifinals.
