San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Pierre Garcon wasn’t able to visit his high school alma mater in person Wednesday afternoon for a scholarship presentation, but he sent his regards by video.

Through his Pierre Garcon Helping Hands Foundation, the former John I. Leonard standout awarded four scholarships worth $2,500 each to students Wednesday afternoon.
He appeared via video to congratulate the students, all seniors. They are Jada Allen, Jarnell Johnson, Christina Van Dyme and Mohammed Al-Amary.
During the video presentation, Garcon congratulated students for their hard work, and told them he was proud to be able to support their efforts to continue their education.

Garcon, 30, played football at John I. Leonard and later at Norwich (Vt.) University and Mount Union College in Ohio. As a senior in 2007, he caught 67 passes for 955 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was an Ohio Athletic Conference first-team selection.
The Indianapolis Colts drafted Garcon in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He’s played nine seasons in the NFL with the Colts and Redskins, catching 564 passes for 7,068 yards and 37 touchdowns.
He signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract with the 49ers in March.
Garcon scored his first NFL touchdown against the Dolphins in 2009.
