Royal Palm Beach boys basketball coach Scott Dobbs has resigned after two seasons with the Wildcats, athletic director Eric Patterson confirmed Thursday.
Dobbs, a former Royal Palm Beach assistant who was named head coach in 2015, went 37-17 with one playoff appearance in his two seasons.
The Wildcats finished 16-10 this year, falling in overtime to Dwyer in the District 13-8A semifinals. Royal Palm Beach made the Class 7A regional semifinals last season, narrowly losing to eventual state champion Pompano Beach-Ely.
Dobbs will be moving out of state, Patterson said. He will be replaced by lead assistant Dion Griffin.
“Coach Dobbs has been a wonderful representative for our basketball program for the past two years as the face of our program,” Patterson said. “Scott helped put Royal Palm Beach basketball on the map.
“More important than that, Coach Dobbs ran a great program and took exceptional care of the student-athletes under his command.”
Griffin, a native of Detroit, coached the Wildcats’ junior varsity team and was an assistant under Dobbs.
“We look forward to Coach Griffin continuing and building on the prior success of our program,” Patterson said.
