The former Cardinal Newman standout announced his intentions Wednesday, as reported by ESPN.com.
“After a lot of thought, I have decided to declare for the NBA draft, but not hire an agent,” Collins, a 6-foot-10 forward, said in a statement. “This allows me the opportunity to be evaluated by teams over the next few weeks and gather information from them.
“I want to make an informed decision about what is best for my future, whether that is turning pro at this time or returning to Wake Forest for my junior season.”
Collins had a breakout sophomore season for the Demon Deacons, averaging 19.2 points and 9.8 rebounds.
He was runner-up in voting for ACC Player of the Year, and also was a first-team All-ACC selection.
Collins is likely a first-round pick, numerous NBA executives told ESPN.
As a Cardinal Newman senior in 2015, Collins averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds, and was named the Post’s Small Schools Player of the Year.
