The former Glades Central football coach will return to the school to coach its football team, school district spokeswoman Kathy Burstein confirmed Friday.
He’ll take over for Rick Casko, who stepped down Nov. 15 after three seasons. Casko was 25-11 overall with the Raiders, and made the playoffs all three years.
Glades Central finished 6-5 in 2016, and advanced to the Class 4A regional semifinals.
Hester, a former Glades Central standout who played at Florida State and in the NFL, coached the Raiders from 2008-10. He went 36-4 during that span, and advanced to the state championship game twice.
He also coached at Suncoast and at Lake Worth, where he served as the school’s athletic director for four years, and and as its football coach from 2013-15. He finished 15-17 in his three seasons.
Hester left the school last January after his arrest for alleged domestic assault. The prosecutor in the case declined to press charges.
