Joe Allison, who won the inaugural Groza Award in 1992, returns to Palm Beach County for the Silver Anniversary celebration.
The event will be held Dec. 5 at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott, which was home to the inaugural Lou Groza Award banquet.
It will recognize three national finalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award as well as top high school players and coaches.
On Dec. 7, Allison will present the Groza Trophy to the season’s best kicker, as voted by a panel of FBS coaches and sports information directors, along with national and regional football writers and past Groza winners. The winner will be announced by Allison live on ESPN during the Home Depot College Football Awards.
Allison was a standout kicker at the University of Memphis. During his junior season, he converted 23-of-25 field goal attempts, and led the NCAA in both field goals made and field goal percentage.
He was named an Associated Press All-American that year, and finished his Memphis career with 51 field goals. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1994 as a free agent.
