Dameus, a state qualifier with the Chiefs, is the first TSU female student-athlete to earn the honor, according to ovcsports.com.

The award was established in 1981, and is voted on by the conference’s athletic directors and sports information directors.

Dameus became Tennessee State’s first two-time first-team All-American this season after finishing sixth in the long jump and eighth in the pentathlon at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships. She helped the Tigerbelles to a 21st-place finish at the event.

Also this season, Dameus won the long jump and 400-meter hurdles, and helped the 4×100 relay team to a first-place finish, at the OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

She has qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the heptathlon. The competition will be held June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.
