Wellington weightlifter Alex Brosseau will continue his record-setting career at Lindenwood (Mo.) University.
The Class 2A 219-pound state champion announced his decision Wednesday through Twitter.
Brosseau, who also played football for the Wolverines, lifted a total of 740 pounds to claim the state title April 16 at the Kissimmee Civic Center.
He also set a state record in the clean and jerk, lifting a total of 375 pounds.
Brosseau said he chose Lindenwood because of its solid weightlifting program and academic opportunities.
“It has a lot of past and recent success,” he said. “It’s one of the only programs that is connected to a university across the nation. I believe it will be a great place to start a higher education and career.”
Wellington football and boys weightlifting coach Tom Abel said Brosseau’s work ethic has prepared him for the next level of competition.
“He’s one of the hardest-working weightlifters I’ve ever met,” Abel said. “We’re very proud of him. He deserves it.”
