But Holmes’ selection is back in the news on the eve of the 2016 NFL Draft, courtesy of USA Today.

In its Ultimate NFL Draft first round, USA Today selects what it considers the greatest NFL players that have come from picks 1-32.

Holmes, who caught 389 passes for 6,030 yards and 36 touchdowns during his nine-year NFL career – he’s now a free agent – was chosen as the best player at pick No. 25.

He keeps some very good company, with players by the name of John Elway (No. 1), Walter Payton (No. 4), Joe Namath (No. 12) and Dan Marino (No. 27) on the list.

For what it’s worth, the 1983 Draft produced four players on this list, including Elway, Marino, Bruce Matthews (No. 9) and Darrell Green (No. 28).

Five others played their college football in Florida, among them Deion Sanders (No. 5, Florida State); Emmitt Smith (No. 17, Florida); Jack Youngblood (No. 20, Florida); Ed Reed (No. 24, Miami); and Ray Lewis (No. 26, Miami).
