Cardinal Newman has a new athletic director.
The school announced Friday it had named Jay Lower to fill the position. Lower is a former dean of students, activities director and assistant athletic director at the school.
He replaces Tom Flynn, who left the school in February. Flynn, a Cardinal Newman graduate, served less than a year as athletic director.
Lower joined the Cardinal Newman administration in 2013. He had spent the previous 19 years at Pope John Paul II, where he served many roles, among them athletic director and student activities director.
He also coached softball, boys basketball and cross-country for the Eagles, and was an assistant baseball and track coach. His cross-country teams won five district titles, four county titles, three regional championships and one state title during his nine seasons.
“We welcome Mr. Lower as our AD, and wish him the best in his new career,” the school said in a statement.
