The Crusaders finished with 155 points, 10 ahead of second-place American Heritage. Somerset Canyons was third with 86.5 points, followed by Fort Pierce Westwood, Jupiter Christian and Benjamin.

“We took over a wrestling program that had three wrestlers in 2014, in a program that was going to be dropped,” Cardinal Newman coach Brian Pulaski said. “We built it into a district champion with a lot of accountability, effort and love.

“It’s our first wrestling title in 28 years. We just want to bring the program back where it was in the ’80s and honor those who came before us as Newman wrestlers.”

Three Crusaders wrestlers won individual championships – Nick Cerbone at 152 pounds, Austin Basile at 160 pounds and Nate Grant at 220 pounds.

Other individual champions were: Rodrigo Mata, American Heritage (106); Eric Barnes, Jupiter Christian (113); Nicholas Desola, American Heritage (126); Frankie Tal Shahar, American Heritage (132); Alyis Mursuli, Somerset Canyons (138); Austin Tuttle, Jupiter Christian (145); Darrius Randolph, Fort Pierce Westwood (170); David Hall, Fort Pierce Westwood (182); Ryan Thomas, American Heritage (195); and John Moran, American Heritage (285).
