The complex features new dugouts, a family friendly spectator area and patio, new home bleachers, a pro-style batting cage, new scoreboard, hitting stations and bullpen area.
“This new facility is a testament to all the players and great teams we have had from the past 40 years,” said Budnyk, who was joined at the ceremony by more than 150 former players, alumni and benefactors.
Budnyk, who coached five sports at Cardinal Newman and also was its athletic director, coached the Crusaders’ softball team from 1976 to 1993.
He won three consecutive Class 3A titles from 1981-1983, and was state runner-up in 1989. He compiled an overall record of 437-109 with the Crusaders.
Cardinal Newman opened the 2016 season Wednesday with a 10-1 victory over Atlantic.
