Seminole Ridge will have a new football coach when spring practice gets underway.
Scott Barnwell resigned as head coach Monday after three seasons with the Hawks, Athletic Director Scott Parks confirmed Tuesday. Barnwell cited medical reasons for his resignation, Parks said.

Barnwell compiled a 14-16 record with the Hawks during his three-year tenure. Seminole Ridge made the playoffs in his first season, advancing to the Class 8A regional quarterfinals in 2013.
The Hawks finished 3-7 overall last season and 2-2 in District 9-8A.
Longtime Seminole Ridge assistant coach James Parson will replace Barnwell. Parson spent nine seasons with the Hawks before taking last year off. He also is the boys and girls weightlifting coach at the school and an assistant athletic director.
Barnwell will remain with the school as its dean of students, Parks said.
“He worked very hard,” Parks said of Barnwell. “We appreciate all the time and effort he put in.”
