A former state champion for the Hawks in the 800 meters, she earned a spot in the field after completing the 800-meter event in a time of 2:04.37 in NCAA East Preliminary Round competition last week in Tampa.

She placed second in her heat. The top three in each of three heats plus the next three best times advanced to Eugene.

The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held June 6-9.

As a Seminole Ridge senior in 2013, Howell won the 800-meter event at the Class 4A state championships. She finished in a time of 2:10.12, which was the fastest in the state that year by 2 seconds.

She was named the Palm Beach Post’s Track Athlete of the Year in 2013.
